Big efforts have recently been made towards providing Syria with a modern hotel infrastructure that meets with international standards. The capital and major cities have been obviously the first beneficiaries of this enterprise widely financed by the state.
Thus the Meridien chain of hotels received the management of other hotels in the country in Damascus, and Lattakia. Likewise, the Sheraton manages a five stars hotel in the capital, the local chain ‘The Cham Palace & Hotels’ has six five stars and two four stars hotels in different locations. Other companies have been invited to invest their know-how in the field of hostlery. This policy has begun to bear its fruits: outside Damascus and Aleppo. If you can spend some what with comfort, you will finds hotels almost everywhere, even in small towns. Rooms rates are controlled and hotels classified in categories in accordance with standards which are not always very clear regarding middle category hotels. It would always be wiser to book hotels as much as possible well in advance in Damascus, Aleppo, Palmyra and Lattakia (more particularly in Damascus throughout the year).
